At The Willows we expect all of our pupils to make good progress due to high quality teaching at school and support at home. Each term we look at every pupil’s assessment results to see if there are areas where a pupil seems to have a barrier to learning.
Mrs Gabrielle Deed works closely with school staff, parents/carers, pupils and other agencies to find out if there are difficulties due to:
- communication and interaction
- cognition and learning
- social, mental and emotional health
- sensory and physical needs.
Staff members have regular training in order to meet the needs of our pupils. We know that each pupil is unique. Only by working with and listening to parents/carers and pupils can we enable every pupil to reach their full potential socially, emotionally and academically during their time at The Willows. Specialist support is available to us from agencies such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, County Inclusive Resource and the Behaviour Support Service.
As a parent/carer you will have a number of questions about what our school can provide to help each pupil. We have recently updated our SEND Policy with the support of school staff, parents/ carers and pupils. From parental consultation and feedback we have designed our SEND Information Report, which contains answers from the school staff to the most frequently asked questions. We would welcome any feedback you have, and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school by email: office@thewillows.omat.org.uk
The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information Advice and Support Service or SENDIASS offers a range of support and advice for parents in relation to special educational needs and disabilities and provides an invaluable telephone helpline service for parents. They can also provide access to an Independent Supporter if needed.
