Parent Conduct
The Willows Primary School
Parent Code of Conduct
- Purpose
At The Willows Primary School, we believe it is important to:
- Work in partnership with parents and carers to provide a high-quality learning environment
- Create a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for pupils, staff and parents.
- Model appropriate behaviour to our pupils at all times – developing, recognising and valuing a sense of right and wrong.
To help us to do this, we set clear expectations and guidelines on behaviour for all members of our community. This includes staff (through the staff code of conduct) and pupils (through the behaviour policy, homeschool agreement and pupil code of conduct).
This Code of Conduct aims to help the school work together with parents by setting clear guidelines on appropriate behaviour.
We use the term parents and carers to refer to:
- All biological parents, whether they are married or not
- Anyone with parental responsibility for a pupil
- Any person who has care of a pupil e.g. lives with or looks after the child
2. Our expectations of parents and carers
We expect parents and carers to:
- Respect the ethos, vision and aims of our school
- Work together with staff in the best interest of our pupils
- Treat all members of the school community with respect
- To not be verbally abusive or use foul language towards staff
- Support the school’s policies on learning, behaviour and uniform both in school and at home
- Show understanding and respect for other children and their parents
- Ensure that children arrive at school by 8.30am prepared to start their lessons
- Inform the school by 8:45 if their child is going to be absent, and give the reason
- Ensure that their children attend regularly and that their attendance is 96% or above
- Ensure that their children are collected punctually by 3:30pm Monday to Thursday and 1:00pm on Friday.
- Ensure that their child does not wear jewellery or bring toys or gadgets to school
- Support their child to develop tolerance and a positive attitude towards our diverse, multicultural community
- Show an interest in their child’s school work and ensure all homework is completed and handed in on time
- Encourage their child to do their best and praise achievements
- Attend meetings with their child’s teacher and other staff, aiming to be positive and productive, working towards moving their child’s learning on
- Inform the school if they have any concerns or worries that may affect their child’s learning or ability to complete homework, so that reasonable adjustments can be made.
- Support the school in the teaching of safe and secure internet use at home.
3. Behaviour that will not be tolerated
- Disrupting, or threatening to disrupt, school operations (including events on the school premises/grounds and sports team matches / competitions)
- Swearing, using offensive language, or intimidation of staff
- Displaying a temper, or shouting at members of staff, pupils or parents
- Threatening another member of the school community
- Sending abusive messages to another member of the school community, including via text
texts, email or social media
- Posting defamatory, offensive or derogatory comments about the school, staff or any member of the school community on social media platforms
- Use of physical punishment against your child on school premises
- Any aggressive behaviour (including verbally or in writing) towards a child or adult
- Disciplining another parents child
- Smoking, vaping or drinking alcohol on the school premises
- Inappropriate dress e.g. pyjamas, revealing outfits, items of clothing with offensive language or images
- Possessing or taking drugs
- Bringing dogs onto the school premises (except guide dogs)
4. Breaching the code of conduct
If the school suspects that a parent has breached the code of conduct the school will gather information from those involved and speak to the parent about the incident.
Depending on the nature of the incident, the school may then:
- Send a warning letter to the parent
- Invite the parent into school to meet with a senior member of staff or the head teacher
- Contact the appropriate authorities (in the case of criminal behaviour)
- Seek advice from the trust or local authorities legal team
- Ban the parent from the school premises
The school will always respond to an incident in a proportional way. The final decision on how we respond to breaches of the code of conduct rests with the head teacher.
