Music

At the Willows Primary School, we support our children to submerge themselves in music. As a universal language, it embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. Through listening, playing, singing, composing, and analysing, we want our children to develop a strong understanding of what music is.

Our Music curriculum exposes children to a variety of instruments and styles of music, allowing a curiosity of the subject to grow. Whilst children develop their own love for music and inspire their own musical talents, they are invited to sing, listen, play, perform and evaluate music during classroom learning, concerts and extravaganzas, as well as through performances to others, both in school and within the wider community. This includes large scale events such as 'Young Voices', where children experience performing at the O2, as well as Christmas nativities for our youngest children. During their time at The Willows, our pupils also have the opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument. We are thrilled to have the specialist support of Suffolk County Music, who guide and support our Year 5 pupils to play brass. Those that wish to, then continue developing their musical skills and interests during additional lessons, which are showcased at school performances and events.
