Year 6 Art – The Significance of the Poppy
As part of our 'Is Anything Worth Dying For?' enquiry, Year 6 have been exploring the significance of the poppy through our learning about WWI and WWII. In art, we have studied the beauty and intricate details of this symbolic flower, experimenting with a range of sketching pencils to explore different tones, textures and effects. The children showed fantastic focus and creativity, evaluating which pencils produced their preferred results. Next, we will experiment with watercolours, acrylic paints, crayons and pastels before choosing our favourite medium to create our final pieces.

Year 6 Life Skills – Knife and Fork Etiquette
As part of our life skills curriculum, Year 6 have been developing their table manners and dining etiquette, with a particular focus on using a knife and fork correctly and confidently. The children have explored how to hold and position their cutlery, practising their cutting techniques using bananas! There was plenty of concentration, determination and some impressive progress along the way. We will continue practising these valuable everyday skills in school and would love families to encourage and reinforce them at home, helping the children develop greater confidence and independence around the dinner table.
