It has been another busy and exciting week of learning!

In English, we have been exploring the features of newspaper reports. We used the fascinating 2022 discovery of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship, Endurance, in the Weddell Sea as the inspiration for our learning. The children were captivated by the incredible story of the ship and its discovery more than a century after it sank beneath the Antarctic ice. As budding journalists, we also investigated the difference between direct and indirect quotations, considering how reporters use both to bring their stories to life.

A real highlight of the week was spending time with author Guy Bass. The children loved hearing about his journey to becoming a writer, where he finds inspiration for his stories and what life as an author is really like. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from a professional writer and ask plenty of questions!

In History, we continued our exploration of the Tudors by taking a closer look at Henry VII, the first Tudor monarch. We learnt about his victory over Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485 and explored how this important battle brought the Wars of the Roses to an end and marked the beginning of the Tudor dynasty.

A week full of shipwrecks, authors, journalists and Tudor battles — there has certainly been plenty to capture our imaginations!
