Year 5 have returned from the Easter break full of energy and curiosity, and they have made a fantastic start to their new English unit. This week, we began exploring our new class text, Zombierella.

From the very first pages, the children have been completely hooked. They have been using their inference skills to make thoughtful predictions about what might happen next in the story, as well as considering how this version might differ from the traditional tale of Cinderella.

We have also been looking closely at the structure of traditional stories, helping pupils to understand familiar patterns such as openings, build-ups, problems, resolutions and endings. Alongside this, the children have been analysing author choices in detail, thinking about how vocabulary can be used deliberately to create atmosphere and engage the reader.

Alongside this, Year 5 also enjoyed an exciting and memorable trip to Trinity Park for the Farm and Country Fair. It was a fantastic day out, and the children fully embraced every part of the experience. They enjoyed a tractor ride, watched a sheep show, and had the opportunity to stroke a variety of animals, including guinea pigs, sheep, cows, and goats.

The learning didn’t stop there, as pupils also discovered a range of more exotic species such as reptiles, amphibians, and insects. They took part in hands-on activities including carving wood, dissecting owl pellets, dressing up as Anglo-Saxons, and much more.

The children had a truly brilliant day and represented the school exceptionally well throughout. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, curiosity, and excellent behaviour in action.
