Wk ending 30/1/26
Another busy and productive week in 6HW, with pupils fully immersed in our class novel. We are thoroughly enjoying the story and the many opportunities it provides to explore characters in depth. This week, we used a drama-based reading strategy called Role on the Wall to help bring the main character, Finn, to life. Pupils considered what Finn might be thinking and feeling on the inside, alongside how he behaves and is seen by others on the outside. This visual and collaborative approach helped pupils move beyond the surface of the text and truly connect with the character.
The strategy prompted thoughtful discussion, careful reasoning and some excellent use of evidence from the text to justify ideas. Pupils showed increasing confidence when explaining their thinking, often building on each other’s contributions and refining their ideas as their understanding deepened. Activities like this not only strengthen inference skills, but also encourage empathy and curiosity, helping pupils engage with reading in a far more meaningful and memorable way.
