Wk ending 9/1/26

This week in Year 5, we began our new class novel, Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell. The children have already shown fantastic enthusiasm as they got to know the characters and the mysterious opening of the story. They used their retrieval skills to gather key facts and their inference skills to read between the lines. The children  also made thoughtful comments on the characters’ actions.

In Geography, we revisited our knowledge of the seven continents and five oceans, making sure everyone had a strong foundation for the work we’ll be doing later this term. The children enjoyed using maps and globes to locate each continent and ocean, and they showed great recall of their prior learning.

We also started exploring travel brochures in English. The class looked closely at different persuasive techniques, with a special focus on using rhetorical questions to interest and engage a reader. The children enjoyed creating their own rhetorical questions linked to Ipswich, showing great creativity and understanding of how these questions can persuade a reader.

It’s been a brilliant start to the term, and we’re excited to build on this learning next week!
