Spring 2026
This term, Year 5 will be exploring a powerful big question:
In today’s world, should anyone be homeless?
Through this theme, pupils will think deeply about fairness, community, and the way people live across different places.
Our class novel will be Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell — an exciting,
imaginative story set in both London and Paris. As we follow the characters’ journeys, children will discuss their actions, explore their personalities, and develop their own thoughtful opinions.
In Geography, we’ll compare London and Paris in more detail. Pupils will investigate how the buildings in each city reflect their unique histories and development over time. They will learn how human processes have shaped both cities, how historic sites are protected today, and how to locate famous landmarks using maps, OS symbols, and four-figure grid references.
In History, the children will dive into the dramatic events of the French Revolution, discovering how it changed the lives of ordinary people and influenced the modern world.
In Design and Technology, pupils will research French cuisine, design their own toppings and flavour combinations, and finally make their own French crêpes — bringing a delicious, hands-on link to our French theme.
In Science, our learning will focus on properties and changes of materials and living things and their habitats, giving children the chance to experiment, classify and explore the natural world.
It’s set to be an exciting and inspiring term of learning, full of discovery, creativity and new ideas.
