Autumn 2025

This term, our learning has been guided by the enquiry question:

⚔️ Is anything worth dying for?

Through literature, history and the arts, we have been exploring the impact of conflict and the sacrifices made by individuals during times of war.

📚 English & History: Goodnight Mr Tom and Life During Wartime

We have been reading Goodnight Mr Tom, using the story to deepen our understanding of evacuation, life on the home front, and the emotional experiences of children during the Second World War. Alongside this, we have been learning about the First and Second World Wars, exploring key events, causes and consequences.

Our discussions have made us think critically about courage, duty, compassion and the difficult decisions people faced. These conversations link closely to our enquiry question and have helped us form more thoughtful, informed viewpoints.

✒️ War Poetry

We have explored a range of war poetry, studying how writers use imagery, tone and emotion to portray the realities of conflict. We have experimented with our own responses, developing empathy and a deeper appreciation for the power of poetry.
