Autumn 2025
This term, our learning has been guided by a big and exciting enquiry question:
✨ Can one person change the world? ✨
Through stories, history and hands-on activities, the children have been discovering how ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference.
Learning from Inspirational Change makers
We have explored the lives of several remarkable individuals whose actions shaped the world we live in today:
-
David Attenborough – We learnt how he is a person who has changed our world to this present day. He inspires people to care for our planet and protect the natural world.
-
Mary Anning – The class have been able to build on their knowledge of David Attenborough and explore this amazing lady from the past, who was the first female Palaeontologist.
-
Elizabeth Garrett Anderson – The class learnt about her groundbreaking journey to become the first female doctor in Britain.
-
Florence Nightingale – The children discovered how she transformed hospitals with her bravery and determination, especially when she cared for the soldiers in the Crimean War. She was known as 'The Lady with the Lamp'.
-
Mary Seacole – We look at the similarities and differences she has to Florence Nightingale, as they were both nurses. Through her compassion and resilience, she was able to journey all the way to England and then to the Crimean War where she nursed injured soldiers back to good health.
Through role-play, discussions and creative tasks, the children have been thinking about the qualities of a change maker and how they themselves can make a difference—no matter how small.
We are very proud of how curious, thoughtful and enthusiastic the children have been this term. Keep checking our page for updates on our learning journey!
