This week in History, we have been learning about the impact that the First World War had on people living at home. We discovered that food shortages became a serious problem and that, in 1918, the government introduced rationing. Some of the foods that were rationed included sugar, meat, butter and bacon. We became the teachers for the lesson, researching different aspects of rationing before sharing our findings with the rest of our groups. We really enjoyed taking on the role of teacher and learning more about this fascinating period of history.
In Science, we have been learning about how scientists classify animals. We explored the Linnaean Classification System, developed by the Swedish scientist Carl Linnaeus, which is used to group living things according to their characteristics. We challenged ourselves to remember the different classification levels and applied our knowledge by sorting a red fox into its correct groups. It was a fun and engaging way to learn about how scientists organise the natural world.
