This week in Year 5, we have been exploring the fascinating history of the camera, travelling all the way back to the 1800s and the invention of the pinhole camera, right through to the modern day. The children discussed how technology has advanced over time and the many features cameras now have. They worked collaboratively to create timelines of these developments and then applied their learning in a practical way by taking photographs of subjects they found interesting or meaningful. This resulted in some thoughtful and creative images, including a lovely photograph of the sycamore tree by the forest, which sparked memories of a rhyme the children enjoy singing on their visits there. In our reading lessons, we have continued with Zombierella, focusing closely on vocabulary. The children explored the author’s word choices, identified word classes, discussed meanings, and practised using new vocabulary in a range of sentences.
