This week, Year 5 explored the question “How does air resistance affect different shapes of paper aeroplanes?” through a hands-on investigation. We designed and made paper aeroplanes in a variety of shapes and sizes to test whether shape and surface area would affect how they moved through the air. Each plane was tested by throwing it with the same force, and we carefully measured the distance travelled. By comparing our results, we began to understand how air resistance can slow some shapes down more than others, depending on their design. This practical activity helped us develop our skills in fair testing, measuring accurately, and working scientifically to draw conclusions from our results.
We also focused on vocabulary in our reading text Zombierella. We explored the meaning of new words by reading them in context and discussing what they might mean. We then used these words independently in our own sentences, including intrigued, boon, perished and grim, helping us to deepen our understanding of language and improve our writing skills.
