📖 Early Reading and Phonics in Reception
In Reception, children begin an exciting journey into the world of reading. Through daily phonics sessions, they learn to recognise the sounds that letters make and use this knowledge to blend sounds together to read words. As their confidence grows, children begin to read with increasing fluency and enjoyment.
We give children lots of opportunities to practise their reading skills—both in structured lessons and throughout the school day. Regular practice helps them strengthen their understanding of phonics, build their vocabulary, and develop a love of books.
Reading at home plays a vital role too. When children revisit the sounds and words they’ve learned in school, their fluency improves even more. By working together, school and families help every child become a confident, enthusiastic reader.
