Wk ending 20/3/26
This week in Year 5, our focus has been on developing core learning skills, with a special spotlight on time management. The children explored how long everyday classroom tasks actually take, using timers to estimate and check the duration of activities such as sharpening a pencil, tying their shoelaces, and organising their pencil cases.
Through these practical mini-challenges, pupils discovered that tasks often take more or less time than they expect. This opened up thoughtful discussions about how to plan their work more effectively, how to avoid rushing, and how to manage their pace so they can finish tasks confidently and calmly.
In geography, the children compared old and new London and Paris to explore how major cities change over time. They examined how factors such as new job opportunities, improved transport, and the growth of attractions contribute to increasing populations. This sparked great discussions about why cities evolve and what draws people to live and work in them.
