Wk ending 16/1/26
Year 5 have had an exciting week exploring our world through atlases. Pupils investigated the five oceans and the continents that surround them, using their map-reading skills to better understand how our planet is connected. They also learnt to identify and describe the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, applying this knowledge to locate countries with increasing accuracy. To finish, the class took a closer look at the United Kingdom, exploring its four countries and their capital cities. It’s been a busy and engaging week of geography discovery!
This week, Year 5 also worked collaboratively to describe locations within Ipswich, using rich adjectives to build effective noun phrases. Pupils shared ideas, compared vocabulary choices, and supported one another in crafting vivid descriptions of familiar places. These creative sessions have helped develop both teamwork and language skills, and the class is now ready to use this technique confidently when writing their own travel brochures.
