Spring 2026
Enquiry Focus – Geography
Do all coastlines have the same purpose?
In this geography unit, children will learn about two places by the sea: Felixstowe in England and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Children will find these places on maps and globes and learn where they are in the world. They will discover that Felixstowe and Rio are very different places, even though they are both on the coast and have large ports.

The unit will help children learn about:
-
What the places are like
-
The ports in each place
-
Beaches and the sea
-
How people live and work there
Children will talk about what is the same and what is different between Felixstowe and Rio de Janeiro. They will learn new geography words and use pictures, stories and simple maps to help them understand.
By the end of the unit, children will be able to:
-
Name and locate Felixstowe and Rio de Janeiro on a map
-
Describe what they can see in each place, human and physical features
-
Talk about similarities and differences
This unit helps children understand that the world is made up of many different places and people.
