In 1MF this week in our enquiry, the children have been learning about another significant person from the past: Florence Nightingale. We explored why she is an important figure, how she helped improve hospitals, and the ways her work continues to influence healthcare today.

In Writing, the class has been discovering what a diary entry is. We have been learning how to write in the first person, using words such as I, my, and me to show personal thoughts and feelings. The students have enjoyed taking on the role of different characters and describing events from their point of view.

In Science, we have been busy sorting and classifying materials. Working in groups, the children examined real objects and discussed their features. They then sorted and labelled the items, learning how materials can be grouped based on similarities and differences.

As a class community, we have also been practising using each other’s names when speaking to one another. We believe that saying someone’s name shows kindness, helps us communicate respectfully, and makes our conversations sound warm and friendly.
